Rob Shorten, Founder

Rob is an M&A specialist, with a strong track record from over 29 years' experience advising major global companies and governments, with particular focus on the Utilities and Natural Resources sectors.

He has extensive experience in providing strategic and tactical advice to clients engaged in complex negotiations, conducting competitive trade sale auctions and leading comprehensive buy-side negotiations and due diligence, with a particular focus on cross-border private treaty transactions.

Prior to founding Sirius in 2016, Rob was co-founder and Co-Managing Director of Orion Corporate Advisory Services (founded 2006). Before this, Rob was an Executive Director in Mergers and Acquisitions with ANZ Investment Bank, where he was Global Head of M&A in the Utilities and Infrastructure sectors and Global Co-Head of M&A in the Natural Resources sector.

Rob was also previously Head of JPMorgan’s Australian Power and Natural Resources Investment Banking Team, based in Sydney. Prior to joining JPMorgan, he was a member of corporate finance teams at Warburg Dillon Read (now UBS) and Macquarie Bank, both based in Melbourne.

Rob’s career has spanned projects and assignments both in Australia and overseas. Clients have included CITIC, Marubeni, Mitsubishi, Energy Investors Funds, NRG Energy, InterGen, the New South Wales Government, Sithe Energies, Peabody Energy, Pechiney, BHP, Alcan and the Victorian Government.

Rob holds both a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Economics (First Class Honours) from Monash University and has studied applied mathematics at RMIT on a “not for degree” basis.

Jeremy Brasington, Senior Consultant

Jeremy is a financial and commercial adviser of over 32 years’ experience, for the last 13 years as a commercial/financial adviser to Government and private sector organisations, with a project delivery and capital investment focus. He has an investment banking background (13 years) and prior to that was a practising Civil Engineer (12 years). Jeremy has advised on acquisitions and divestments, project financings, PPPs, privatisations and restructures, especially since 2010.

He has worked globally, at one stage being an Executive Director and co-head of ANZ Investment Bank’s Project Finance division. He also established and ran Evans & Peck’s (part of the Worley Parsons group) Front End Advisory service line for 5 years as a Principal of the firm. Most recently he was a Director of ConnellGriffin in the Melbourne office coordinating their Develop (front end) advisory initiative.

Jeremy’s experience has been in infrastructure, resources and energy. In particular he is competent in technical areas of finance, transaction management, due diligence, commercial structuring, negotiation and documentation. The bulk of his career has been spent in Australia, but he has also operated out of Hong Kong, London and the USA, where has been engaged in a large number of major local and global transactions. He has good connections into the finance industry and government. Clients have included BHP, API, MMX, Xstrata, Rum Jungle Resources, Aurizon, DTF Victoria, DOT Victoria, DIRDC, Hydro Tasmania, Transgrid, Sydney Water and John Holland.

Jeremy holds both a Bachelor of Civil Engineering (First Class and first place) from the University of Melbourne, an MSc and DIC from Imperial College, University of London (Distinction), and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment from the Securities Institute, as well as management orientated courses at Whitwell Manor in the UK and the Mt Martha campus of Melbourne University.
